warriors vs. Celtics prediction and odds for Thursday, January 19 (Fade Golden State)

The best matchup in the NBA on Thursday night has to be the NBA Finals rematch between the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors.

Golden State got the best of Boston earlier this season at Chase Center, but the Warriors have been a much worse team on the road, going just 5-17 straight up this season. After winning the title last season, Golden State is just 22-22 through its first 44 games, holding the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference.

Boston, on the other hand, has the best record in the NBA, and it seems poised to make another deep playoff run this season. The Celtics are elite at TD Garden, going 17-5 straight up in 22 games at home.

A big key in this game will be the status of Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown, who is listed as questionable with a groin injury. Brown missed Bostons last three games with the injury.

Golden State is hoping to make a second half run with Steph Curry back from a shoulder injury, but does it shake its road struggles against an elite Boston team?

warriors vs. Celtics prediction and pick

The Warriors have had Boston’s number since Game 4 of the NBA Finals, and Curry’s insane shooting has been a big reason why.

However, I can’t get behind this Golden State team on the road this season, especially against a tough opponent like Boston. Bettors may want to wait for Brown’s status, but if you think he’s going to play, there’s no harm in laying the six points with Boston.

Golden State is just 3-8 against the spread as a road underdog this season, and it ranks 27th (!!) in the NBA in net rating on the road.

That’s simply not going to get it done against Boston, who ranks No. 1 in net rating and offensive rating this season. The Warriors big issue on the road has been their defense (28th in the NBA in away games), and I think they’ll struggle with an improved Boston attack tonight.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of betting on Golden State getting this many points, but the Warriors have given us zero reason to trust them away from home this season.

I certainly won’t do it against the best team in the NBA.
