Liverpool now ‘cautiously optimistic’ of signing £131m star at Anfield

Liverpool can be ‘cautiously optimistic’ of their chances signing Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham for Jürgen Klopp’s side at Anfield next summer, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport.

The Reds are one of many top European sides in the race for the 19-year-old’s signature in 2023.

Liverpool transfer news – Jude Bellingham

According to a report from Sky Germany (via Sky Sports) at the beginning of December, Liverpool have made Bellingham their top target for the summer of 2023, with Klopp eager for the club to make the transfer happen.

Meanwhile, The Athletic reported back in September that Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid were joining the Reds in their interest in the teenager, with Dortmund reportedly valuing the midfielder at a fee of around £131m.

According to GOALthe Stourbridge-born starlet has told his entourage that he would like to make the move to Real Madrid, with the La Liga giants making the prospect their priority target ahead of the summer window.

However, journalist Dean Jones has suggested to GiveMeSport that the England star could become the future captain of Liverpool and that prospect could push him towards a move to Merseyside rather than the Bernabéu.

And Jacobs believes that due to the fact they have done everything they possibly can up to this point to secure his signature, the Anfield outfit could be cautiously optimistic about adding Bellingham to their squad next summer.

What has Jacobs said about Liverpool and Bellingham?

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “I do think that Liverpool are leading the race for Bellingham. They’re going to have competition, but I think that there’s a cautious optimism on the Liverpool front that, because they started earlier than most and because they have put in a lot of legwork and they’ve been very hands-on, they believe that they’ve done all they can at this point in the race to make progress and land Jude Bellingham. Then we’ll wait and see how other suitors move and how that affects the situation.”

Spain demolished Costa Rica in their opening game. What was the score?

Would Bellingham be a good signing for Liverpool?

At just 19 years old, Bellingham is one of the hottest prospects in world football right now, and a fantastic showing at the World Cup will have done nothing to deter suitors from his services.

The midfielder played in all five of England’s games in their run to the World Cup quarter-finals and scored his first international goal in the Three Lions’ opening 6-2 group-stage victory over Iran.

The Birmingham City academy product earned a WhoScored rating of 7.58 for his impressive showings in Qatar, ranking him as the nation’s second-best performer behind Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, suggesting that he is more than capable of performing to a high standard when it matters.

An impressive World Cup comes on top of the excellent campaign he is currently enjoying at Dortmund, having scored nine goals and provided three assists in 22 appearances for the Bundesliga giants, according to Transfermarkt.

Therefore, if Klopp is looking for midfield additions next summer, he could do no better than encourage the Liverpool hierarchy to put all they can into trying to secure Bellingham’s signature at Anfield.
