WICKET Kane Williamson is cleaned up by Mohammad Siraj, a painfully slow 61 coming to an end as India looks to put the finishing touches to what seems like an obvious win. 124/7 in 17.5 overs

WICKETSDeepak Hooda and Yuzvendra Chahal have struck in quick succession, dismissing Daryl Mitchell and James Neesham in quick succession, to peg New Zealand back further. This is proving to be a no contest really at the moment.89/5 in 13.3 overs

CAPTAIN KANE IS STEADYING THE SHIPNot the best time to go at run-a-ball 30, especially chasing a 190+ target. But his innings he has allowed India to keep New Zealand in check. Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips have fallen to the spin duo of Washington Sundar and Yuzvendra Chahal respectively, without making much of an impact. Even as New Zealand are scoring at a rate close to what India were at the 11-over mark, they need the kind of acceleration that Suryakumar Yadav provided in the death overs. 77/3 in 11 overs

WICKET Bhuvneshwar Kumar strikes early. Finn Allen, looking to play for a big shot, ends up getting a thick edge to Arshdeep Singh at third man. 0/1 in 0.2 overs

A last over hat-trick for Tim Southee, in which he conceded only five runs takes nothing away from a sensational innings by Suryakumar Yadav, who stroked an unbeaten 51-ball 111, which powered India to a massive 191 for 6. That none of the other Indian batters barring Ishan Kishan’s 31-ball 36 managed to make a noteworthy contribution only goes to speak for the contribution of Suryakumar. It was quintessentially delightful, quintessentially SKY. His knock of him included 11 boundaries and 7 sixes. It’s an above par score. Can India defend it though?

HAT TRICKTim Southee gets his second T20I hat-trick – dismissing Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda and Washinton Sundar, all caught. He now becomes only the second bowler to bag two T20I hat-tricks after Lasith Malinga. More importantly, he managed to keep Suryakumar Yadav away from strike in the last over.

CENTURYSuryakumar Yadav is putting up a spectacle here. He has brought up his second T20I century – in only 49 balls. He has raced away from his fifty to his century in only 17 balls. No bowlers is being spared this onslaught. He becomes only the second India to bring up two T20I centuries in a calendar year after Rohit Sharma achieved the feat in 2018.176/3 in 18.4 overs

This is turning out to be a Suryakumar Yadav show

FIFTYSuryakumar Yadav has been kept in check slightly over the last 10 balls. However, that is not to take away from how he has exploited the dimensions of the field and bullied the New Zealand bowlers in this innings. A fine, commanding half-century for the in-form batter – in only 32 balls.122/3 in 15.3 overs

WICKETJust when it seemed like Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer were taking the attack on the New Zealand bowlers, the latter is dismissed hit wicket. Looking to play a ball through the legside, he went too deep into his crease and his heel ended up hitting the stumps. Unfortunate dismissal.108/3 in 12.4 overs

21 C Jordan/ I Sodhi *

16 M Santner/ D Chameera

15 T Southee

WICKET Ish Sodhi finally dismisses Ishan Kishan. Looking to make room and cut, he finds Tim Southee at short third. Second catch for the seamer. 69/2 in 9.1 overs

Ishan Kishan survived a scare soon after the play resumption. Adjudged leg before, he got the decision overturned with a review, and he has taken the attack on the New Zealand bowlers in the company of Suryakumar Yadav. 69/1 in 9 overs

Play has resumed after a 26-minute break. However, the good news is that we haven’t lost any overs in the contest.

Expectedly, rain has come to play spoilsport. Play has been stopped. 50/1 in 6.4 overs

WICKET Rishabh Pant’s struggled stay in the middle finally comes to an end. He top edges a pull off Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee takes a fine catch running backwards. 36/1 in 5.1 overs

Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan haven’t entirely looked comfortable, but have managed to find a few boundaries to get India going.21 for no loss in 3 overs

Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan have walked out to open the innings for India
