‘Humble’ Joao Felix ‘backs down to no one, even Diego Simeone’ and won’t be pushover in Premier League as £110million forward is linked to Manchester United and Arsenal

Manchester United and Arsenal target Joao Felix is ’someone who backs down to absolutely no one’ and won’t be any different in the Premier League.

That’s according to European football journalist Andy Brassell, who has made a point of highlighting how Felix has handled his time under Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone amid links with a move to English football.

Both Man United and arsenal are understood to be keen on signing the Portuguese forward in their bids to boost their attacking options this January.

According to The SunAtleti are also keen on re-signing Man United starlet Alejandro Garnacho, leading to suggestions of a player-plus-cash deal that could put the Red Devils in the driving seat.

Felix recently turned 23, but his age clearly hasn’t stopped him from defending himself, as shown by his reported fall out with manager Simeone.

And Brassell thinks if the forward moves to England’s top flight, he won’t be a pushover there, either.

“A good point to make here is what sort of personality he is,” Brassell told talkSPORT’s Trans Europe Express.

“I think that’s sometimes missed by people who don’t watch him on a regular basis, don’t see the way he is on the pitch and the way he behaves off it.

“He’s by no means a celebrity piece of work, he’s fairly humble I think it’s fair to say.

“On the other hand he’s someone who backs down to absolutely no one, and by no one I mean no even Diego Simeone.

“Let’s be fair, Diego Simeone has crushed the spirit of some fairly big players before and got them to do exactly what he wants or just got rid of them.

“Where as this is a very, very different case.”

Felix joined Atleti in 2019 for a huge sum of £113million, the fourth highest sum ever paid in football and the club’s largest ever fee.

But fast forward to this season and, despite a strong start, Felix has found himself sliding down the pecking order after a dispute with Simeone and subsequently asking his agent for a move away this January.

The 23-year-old has since been given the green light to depart the Wanda Metropolitano.

It’s understood Atletico are holding out for a whopping £9.5m loan fee, though.

And they are also demanding potential suitors agree to an obligation to sign him permanently for £70.5m in the summer.

It’s been suggested Arsenal are set to hold talks with Felix’s representatives as they look for another striker to help cover Gabriel Jesus’ absencebut Man United are said to have first refusal on the star.
